What has been studied, and what has not

This page lists research on the herbal preparation behind Zudax and makes the documents available to read and download. For published work we give the full citation, a plain-language account of what was done and a summary of what the authors report, including the limits they place on it. Notes of our own are marked as ours.

The documents on this page are shared as their authors prepared them. Zudax is not a medicine and makes no therapeutic claim; it is not intended to prevent or treat any disease.

In vitro, molecular-level investigation of the effect of a new Turkish herbal preparation on HUVEC, and analysis of its phenolic compounds

F. Duygu Özel Demiralp (Dokuz Eylül University) · Seçil Karahisar Turan (Hacettepe University) · Naşit İğci (Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University) · Nejat Akar (TOBB University of Economics and Technology)

The abstract does not name Zudax. It describes the material studied as “a new Turkish herbal preparation”, and it carries no funding or conflict-of-interest statement.

What was studied

An ethanolic extract of a herbal preparation made from plant parts including Turkish green tea leaf, cinnamon bark, mint, thyme and black seed. The extract, diluted by half, was applied for set periods to human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC), a human cell model widely used in research, grown in the laboratory. The abstract does not give the exposure times or final concentrations.

How it was studied

The researchers compared the proteins in treated and untreated cells by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and identified those that differed by mass spectrometry and bioinformatic analysis. They assessed whether the extract was toxic to the cells (MTT assay), stained the cells for VEGF, a signalling protein, and analysed the extract’s phenolic compounds by HPLC against selected reference standards.

What the authors report

Four proteins differed between treated and untreated cells: calcium-independent phospholipase A2-gamma, SH2B adapter protein 1, mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2 and hyaluronan and proteoglycan link protein 4. VEGF expression also differed between the groups. The abstract does not give the direction or size of these differences, or any statistics, and it does not report the result of the toxicity test. HPLC suggested that the extract may contain phenolic acids, such as syringic and chlorogenic acids, in low amounts.

Limits

Our note: the work was done on cells grown in a dish; the preparation was not given to people or animals, and it was not tested in the form in which it is consumed. The authors write that the extract may contain substances other than phenolic compounds, that the synergistic effects of all its components most likely play a role in its effect on the cells, and that comprehensive in vitro and in vivo studies would describe the preparation’s effects and content in more detail.

Acceptance of an abstract at a congress, and its listing here, do not mean that the Turkish Society of Hematology, the authors or their universities approve or recommend the preparation studied or Zudax. Do not use Zudax in place of, or stop, any treatment your doctor has prescribed, and consult your doctor before consuming it, particularly if you take prescribed medication.

How We Choose

Four conditions for published research

Who did the work

Each entry names the authors with the university affiliations printed in the source, and says whether the source states who funded it.

Presented or published

It has appeared in a journal or in the official abstract book of a scientific society’s congress. A congress abstract is a short summary accepted for presentation; it is not a full peer-reviewed paper. Drafts and internal reports are not listed here; they appear only in the Documents section below, marked as such.

What was studied

Each entry states what the authors studied, in their terms. Where a work does not name Zudax, we say so.

Fully cited

Every work is listed with a complete reference, so that it can be traced to its source.

New work is added once it is presented or published · Summaries and translations are ours · The original text is authoritative

Documents

The documents, as prepared

The documents below were prepared by persons and institutions independent of Zudax. They are shown as their authors prepared them. Unless stated otherwise, they have not been published in a peer-reviewed journal.
